Background color not displaying

Remove the quotes from the color name. Using color names is not good for some browsers. hex color codes
Quotes are only required for font names that consist of two words with spaces, not color names.

I agree on this one. Remember that you are using CSS. You don't have to be redundant on your coding because it causes conflict on the browsers view.

You do not have to use my code or css, it is meant as an example as to what can be done. As long as you get enough from it and your pages work the same on all browsers.
Do a google search for embedding wmv movies.

in my opinion, if you doing hovers, you can optionally remove the a:active and a: visited attributes. Because your only wanting to see hovers right?. That's what I've been doing in my works

Flash works fine in modern browsers. It is not very Search Engine friendly since it is basically a media file. Might just play with it and make a flash site for practice. Techniques can be used in a smaller role on your own HTML page should you want a flash banner or interactive navigation buttons.

Yes, your hack if applied to the whole body, will keep all browsers centered while zooming but at the same time, your hack creates the problem with using the horizontal scroll bar to scroll left if it is applied to the whole body, rather than just applied to a div with unequal width blocks for which the hack was designed.

One would think that such a basic problem of zoom centering could be solved,
as IE somehow has solved it, whereas the other browsers have not.

If there is no css workaround, maybe there is a way with java.

I'll try the dynamic drive java forum and see what happens.

Hacking your (sticks464) centering hack?

The centering hack is not needed for what your doing. There is no need to use four div's just to center text. All you need is auto centering on the container-content div and eliminate the others.
Now if you want to include a horizontal menu inside the container-content div that does not have a known width, then the hack can be used to center that menu, as in this example.

You're welcome. I've had problems at times with pre-wrap and a few others. "pre" tags only help to maintain text just as you type it. You add a lot of whitespace, which normally is ignored, and the text will show just as you put it on the page. Post back if you have problems with related problem with topic here.
