This is just a non-help question.

OK. So the w3c says that HTML 4 will die and be replace with XHTML, a child of XML.

So xhtml will work off "tags" thay you make up, but you have to define them in css( or the like xcss anyone?lol.) ruls. Right???

So my question: "is xhtml out yet?" can browers read a xhtml file and can people code xhtml like html(only needing notepad and ie)?

XHTML has been out for a very long time actually. There are some tags that have been deprecated (like font, etc) - you need to use CSS instead to actually apply the colors, styles, etc.

The HTML Reference shows what tags have been deprecated and then you can drill down into some of the tags to find out what attributes are deprecated. For example, bgcolor on the <td> tag is deprecated.

For some more reading check out Teach me XHTML, Returning to XML, and Is there any point to XHTML 1.1?

There are so many websites that use HTML that it would be hard to foresee it disappearing anytime soon.

Remember they said COBOL was going to die 25 years ago yet there are more COBOL programs around the world than any other computer language.

If you know XHTML then you may as well use it but if you have loads of pages using just HTML then I wouldn't go to any huge effort to convert them.
