Forget books

A) pick a simple website. 2 or 3 page no input.
B) Copy source code (go "view" ie7/ then "source"
C) Copy and paste into your index pages
(if u dont have program sign up for free webhosting like geocities)
D) Start playing with it. Its easy mostly.
E) start a folder with "link code", "rollover code", or any other codes you like for easy copy/pasting/slight modifying.

After a few hours of fiddling, changing colours, adding pages, you will feel confident enough to keep going. If you see an effect you like on anyones website View source or copy/paste and fiddle with it to suite your needs.

I'm also a newbie but am now good at page layouts and informative content.
