Hi everyone -- I'm delving into the realm of setting up a controlled members' area in a website, and I find that wading through hundreds of posts on hotscripts.com and discovering most of the ones that seem like they might work are no longer available is just not working for me.
I was hoping there were a few people here that were familiar with what's out there and would know whether a script exists that fulfills the needs of this members area:
First and foremost, protects not just pages but also folders. There will be word documents and excel files to download, and they need to be protected.
Secondly, users are added by an administrator rather than by user signups (only a select group of people will be allowed access -- business partners, basically).
Thirdly, I need to capture a certain minimum amount of information on each user. Their name and their Company is all I need, really, although the ability to also capture their email address and have an automatic "I forgot my password" reminder available would be ideal.
Lastly, it would be very nice to group users into access groups (ie. John Smith belongs to CompanyA and Guy Smiley belongs to company B) and specify access to folders by group. If this is something that I can't find, I'll just tell them it's not an option, but it would be nice.
Free would be great, but I've had *no* luck in that arena, and if you know the perfect script but it costs $300, please go ahead and post it here. I'm sure that's more likely, and I've let them know that already.
Many thanks in advance! |

| Hm. It does fulfill a lot of the requirements, but it has the limitation that my current script has: it doesn't protect the contents of folders, which is the biggest requirement. Unless I'm missing something. But what I'm seeing is that you need to put a bit of php in the headers of pages to protect them, so I think that basically means it's limited to pages only. |

| Try this forum to see if one of the php folks can give you better direction to a script or write one for you. |
