I started using Frontpage Express probably back in 1996 or so and use FP 2003 today still. I can handcode a valid HTML document when needed. There is also Dreamweaver and Nvu as well both of which I have not used.

It depends on what you want to achieve.
If you want to code yourself for cheap then use a HTML/Text editor and learn the code
Personally I wouldn't touch FrontPage, but NVU is a good cheap alternative to dreamweaver.
Get Dreamweaver if you are serious about creating full sites/templates.
If you want a full site in one where you just have to edit text then checkout NetObjects Fusion. |

| I would recommend Eversoft Firstpage. I have an older version of that program and I love it. This program works more directly with html than Micrsoft Frontpage does. By using Firstpage I learned most of what I know of html. Best of all, it's free! The website is http://www.evrsoft.com |

When I first started what I used was Netscape Composer in Netscape Navigator 4.7 way back. It was just like doing a Flyer in Word and it did the HTML code for you similar to Front Page Express which I then discoverd. I not use a text editor called NoteTab Lite where its kind of from scratch, but its easy to use and you can download it free. I still dont know to much but what ever code I dont know how to do, I just go to Google and type "HTML code for whatever"... and bingo.
Here is a link to my site: www.geocities.com/cfplweb/index.htm Kind of borrowed and modified a CSS but the rest I did.

When I started learning HTML 2-3 years ago, I started with Dreamweaver and never stopped using it... A client of mine asked a FrontPage editable layout... and must say I thank god I did not start with FrontPage... But if you do not want to go "professional" FrontPage is kind of ok...
I think Dreamweaver is best choice even if you are just starting... |
