| I agree with you on YSB. I had the understanding that Yahoo had closed the ftp access to all sites since their doing away with sitebuilder and free hosting. If you didn't have a copy of your files already you were s.o.l. |

We got FTP details from the very helpful people at Yahoo support today!
I downloaded a full backup for my client and we're now looking at training him up on something a little more with it than YSB, or running it through a custom coded backend..... Would go CMS and some plugins but he has very specific requirements that just don't fit in any kind of off the shelf package....
YSB would be OK if they opened it up a bit.... oh and sorted out the ability to edit HTML FULLY!!! oh and.... let's cut it short at that |

| I hope your getting compensated for the training. Most clients think that's part of the design fee. |

I built a site on the Yahoo Business server for our high school marching band. The band does not have the funds to hire someone to build the site, nor to manage it, so I am doing it on a volunteer basis. I really hate yahoo sitebuilder, but yahoo server seems incompatible with Serif Plus x2, which I had been using for it. (I was unable to load videos or slide shows I had made and embedded, which are a necessity for the site.) I added the band director as a user so that he could update his "notes" page, but for some reason, he cannot log in to use it. I added a friend who is a systems analyst, so that he could help me when he has time, and he has no problems logging in. I added my friend with FTP access to the entire site, but I created a subdirectory for the director and only gave him FTP access to that portion of the site, so that he couldn't accidentally mess up the entire site. Could this be the problem? If so, how the heck do I fix it? Please help because I am getting very frustrated Yahoo server's support is really almost non-existent.
Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help. |

ARE YOU STILL IN NEED OF HELP? I'VE BEEN USING YSB TO LAYOUT WEB DESIGNS MADE IN DREAMWEAVER. ITS VERY EASY TO USE YSB, MY ONLY COMPLAIN AND SUGGESTION ABOUT IT IS IF THEY COULD DISABLE THE 'AUTO FTP AND UPDATE' FEATURE OF IT. INSTEAD LIKE DREAMWEAVER, JUST SAVE THE PROJECT AND BE ABLE TO UPLOAD IT USING OTHER FTP SOFTWARE. I'VE SUGGESTED THAT TO THEM SINCE LAST YEAR. THEY HAVEN'T ACTED ON IT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT IT'S THEIR WAY OF SELLING YAHOO WEB HOSTING SERVICES. I HOPE SOMEBODY WORKS ON A CRACK FOR THIS THOUGH. THIS SITE WAS DESIGNED AND MAINTAINED USING YSB www.thecreatist.org
THIS SITE WAS LAID OUT AND DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED USING YSB www.mediakomph.com |

| First, Yahoo Site Builder only works on Yahoo Web Hosted sites. If you use any other host, you can't use YSB. |
That is why it is called Yahoo Site builder. Why would it work on another website? |
You mean like "Microsoft Frontpage" or "Adobe Dreamweaver"? I guess those products should only work with Microsoft or Adobe systems?
Yahoo Sitebuilder is a joke: Here's the bottom line:
IF YOU CREATE YOUR WEBSITE WITH YAHOO SITEBUILDER YOU WILL FOREVER BE STUCK WITH YAHOO HOSTING! The reality is there are cheaper hosts and if you later decide to change hosts or simply use a computer to create your own hosting you're stuck. All the time and energy and money devoted to creating your site in Sitebuilder will be for nothing as you'll have to create it in another program all over again! I went to transfer several sites I'd created in Yahoo to other hosts only to discover I was essentially locked into using Yahoo hosting for life unless I wanted to recreate all my sites, from ground up all over again, in a REAL program like Frontpage, Dreamwever, etc.
YAHOO SHOULD POST THIS DISCLAIMER OR WARNING BEFORE PEOPLE DOWNLOAD THEIR "FREE" PROGRAM AND INVEST THEIR TIME AND MONEY INTO CREATING A SITEBUILDER BASED WEBSITE.
False advertising because it's not "free" at all! |
